3-Alarm Fire in King Farm

April 1, 2014 – RVFD and MCFRS units were dispatched at 4:12am to a reported building fire in the area of Shady Grove Rd. and Gaither Rd. First arriving units found a large four story apartment building under construction with heavy fire showing from the roof. The address was corrected to a newly developed area on Upper Rock Circle in the King Farm area of Rockville. A second alarm was immediately requested.

The building, a 150-unit apartment complex, under construction but nearing completion, was reported to be vacant. Due to the heavy volume of fire, no interior attack was mounted. External master streams and aerial devices were utilized to control the fire. A third alarm and special call units were also dispatched. Units remained on the scene through the afternoon to continue to wet down the wreckage. The top two floors suffered heavy fire damage and the lower floors were heavily damaged by water.

No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
