Capt. Sander Cohen Funeral – Thank You

The Rockville Volunteer Fire Department would like to thank all those who participated in the funeral services and procession for Capt. Sander Cohen. Capt. Cohen, a volunteer at RVFD, was also a Deputy Chief Maryland State Fire Marshall, was killed in the line-of-duty on Friday December 8, 2017. While a very sad day for Capt. Cohen’s family, friends and colleagues, both in the fire/rescue service and law enforcement communities, we took strength from the large show of support from those who attended. We would like to thank those representatives who traveled from across the state, including Gov. Larry Hogan, from across the country and colleagues from RVFD’s sister fire department, the Pinneberg (Germany) Volunteer Fire Brigade. We were especially touched by the many members of the public who stopped their cars and stood outside with their hands over their hearts as the funeral process passed.

The Cohen family has requested that donations can be made in Sander’s memory to the Rockville Volunteer Fire Department, Inc. Donations may be made on-line HERE, or mailed to RVFD, PO Box 1547, Rockville, MD 20849.

Donations may also be made in Sander’s memory to Aish Hatorah, 11418 Old Georgetown Rd., North Bethesda, MD 20852.

RVFD has set up an email account where any photos or videos related to Capt. Sander Cohen’s funeral may be collected and organized into an archive at RVFD. Please send anything you may have to cohen-funeral@rvfd.org.

  1. Rockville FD and MCFRS are class acts! The coordination by everyone was outstanding and made me very proud to put on my uniform as a Life Member of KVFD. While we celebrate Sander’s life and keep his memory close to our hearts, I just wanted to say thank you.
