RVFD Victim of Cyber Crime

In late April, the Rockville Volunteer Fire Department was targeted by cyber criminals. While impersonating a vendor RVFD has been working with, these criminals stole over $200,000 that was meant to be a down payment for the purchase of two new ambulances that will be used to better serve the Rockville community. RVFD Opens On-Line Store

RVFD is pleased to announce the opening of our on-line store. Now available for purchase are such items as 100th anniversary shirts, pins and patches, RVFD patches, t-shirts and belt buckles, commemorative pins and hats. Death Announcement – Dr. Norman Forster

The officers and members of the Rockville Volunteer Fire Department are saddened to report the death on April 25, 2024 of 52-year Life Member, Dr. Norman Forster at the age of 88. Dr. Forster joined the RVFD on January 26, 1972 and provided service primarily at RVFD Station 33 in Potomac, MD. He was an EMT, firefighter and served as a member of the Board of Directors. RVFD Awards

On March 9, 1921, following a devastating fire in downtown Rockville that threatened the whole area, 51 men gathered to discuss the establishment of a volunteer fire department. Representatives from the group then met with Rockville’s mayor and council who approved plans to organize the department. Over the next two years, this group, along with other members of the community, raised money to purchase a fire engine and further organize the department. Change Your Clock – Check or Change Your Smoke Detector

Daylight Savings Time starts at 2:00am on Sunday March 10, 2024 When changing your clocks, remember to check your smoke detector. The new Maryland Smoke Detector law went into effect on January 1, 2018. It requires that all homeowners replace their older style battery-type detectors with the new long-life detectors. RVFD Member Inducted into MSFA Hall of Fame

  Past Chief Russell W. Dawson was inducted into the Maryland State Firemen’s Association Hall of Fame at their annual convention on June 20, 2023. Chief Dawson, who has been a member of RVFD since 1977, was honored for his contribution to RVFD, Montgomery County and the fire service in Maryland. Several RVFD members were honored by the Rockville Chamber of Commerce at their annual Public Safety Awards ceremony held on June 14, 2023 at Lakewood Country Club. RVFD Firefighters Memorial Re-Dedication

On Memorial Day 2023, RVFD members participated in a ceremony re-dedicating the RVFD Firefighters Memorial. The memorial was originally installed in 1994 in Vinson Park on E. Jefferson St. in Rockville, adjacent to the old Rockville Library. When the library and park were demolished to make way for the new District Courthouse, the memorial was placed in storage pending a new location. RVFD Places New Engine in Service

The Rockville Volunteer Fire Department placed our new 2022 Seagrave fire engine in service on Saturday February 4, 2023. The new engine was dedicated in memory of past Chief Scott Emmons. Unlike many other Montgomery County fire engines, the new Engine 703 is owned by the Rockville Volunteer Fire Department. Engine 703, capable of pumping 2,000 gpm, was built by Seagrave Fire Apparatus in Clintonville, Wisconsin.
