Multiple Collisions

Over the past week, RVFD units were dispatched on three serious collisions. Both fire/rescue and EMS crews met the different challenges of each incident. November 5, 2014 – RVFD and MCFRS units responded at 5:22p for reported overturned vehicle on I–270 north of the Muddy Branch Rd. overpass. Ebola in the USA

October 2, 2014 – The ebola outbreak in West Africa has received a great deal of attention in the news media recently. On September 30, 2015, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) reported the first patient in the US to be identified with the disease. The patient had traveled from West Africa to visit relatives in the Dallas, TX area. Ebola, while very deadly, is difficult to transmit to others. Fatal House Fire

September 4, 2014 – MCFRS and RVFD units were dispatched at 4:35a for a reported house fire on Iris St. in Rockville. First arriving units from Kensington VFD reported smoke showing from a single family home. Chief 705 assumed command and MoCo Communications dispatched the Rapid Intervention Group. RVFD Installs Station AEDs

August 2, 2014 – Rockville VFD is proud to announce we have purchased and installed automated external defibrillators (AEDs) in three RVFD stations, Station 3 on Hungerford Dr., Station 23 on Rollins Ave. and Station 33 on Falls Rd. The AEDs are designed for public access use in the event of a cardiac arrest. The American Heart Association (AHA) statistics show that rapid CPR and AED use for sudden cardiac arrest can save lives. Apartment Fire

July 31, 2014 – RVFD and MCFRS units were dispatched at 11:42p to a reported apartment fire on Burnside Dr. in Rockville. While units were responding, MoCo Communications advised they had received several calls indicating a working fire and they were sending the rapid intervention dispatch. MCFRS Volunteer Chief Hinde was the first to arrive and reported fire showing from the second floor of a three-story garden-style apartment building. Townhouse Fire in Potomac

July 7, 2014 – RVFD and MCFRS units were dispatched at about 10p for a reported townhouse fire on Greenleaf Ave. in Potomac. Upon arrival, B/C703 reported a center of the row townhouse with fire showing from the rear of the structure. RVFD Sponsored Youth Baseball Team Wins Championship

June 16, 2014 – Members of the RVFD-sponsored youth baseball team, stopped by Station 3 to present the game ball to Captain Jon Berry and members of the Monday night shift after winning their division’s championship. The team, playing in the Midget American Division of the Rockville Baseball Association, finished with a record of 7 wins and 5 losses. The game ball will be on display at Station 3. Read more »

Upper Rock Circle – The Aftermath

June 8, 2014 – On April 1, 2014 RVFD and MCFRS units were dispatched to building fire on Upper Rock Circle in the King Farm area of Rockville. Upon arrival, units found a large apartment complex that was still under construction, with heavy fire on the upper floors. Drafting/Master Stream/PFD Drill and Answering the Challenge

May 31, 2014 – Thursday Shift and others standing duty on Saturday night participated in a drafting and master stream drill that included use of personal flotation devices (PFD) when they also answered the Cold Water Challenge from the Freiwillege Feuerwehr Pinneberg, the volunteer fire department from Rockville’s Sister City, Pinneberg, Germany. May 1, 2014 – RVFD and MCFRS units were dispatched at 3:30p for a reported house on fire on Monument St. in Rockville.
