March 3, 2014 – RVFD and MCFRS units responded to a reported house fire on Evans St. in Rockville. Upon arrival, units found a small fire behind aluminum siding apparently caused by the homeowner attempting to melt ice. The fire was quickly extinguished. Small Fire at City Facility
February 27, 2014 – RVFD and MCFRS units responded to a reported building fire at a City of Rockville facility on the Glenview Mansion property. RS703, the first arriving unit, reported smoke showing and the rapid intervention group was dispatched. The crew then found a small fire in a bathroom of one of the workshops. Two Vehicle Collision
February 22, 2014 – RVFD units responded to a reported collision at W. Montgomery Ave. and Research Blvd. Units found two vehicles involved with one driver trapped in the vehicle due to the impact on the driver’s door. While waiting for the rescue squad to arrive, E731’s crew was able to pry the door open and the driver was extricated. After evaluation, the driver was transported to a local trauma center. February 12, 2013 – RVFD and MCFRS units were dispatched just after 6am to a Washington Gas repair truck dispatch facility on Nebel St. in south Rockville. First arriving units found heavy fire inside the garage with vehicles on fire. A second alarm was requested. Driver Pinned in Collision
February 6, 2014 – RVFD units responded to a report of a collision with one pinned on Bou Ave. in south Rockville. Upon arrival, Station 23 units found a single vehicle that had struck a tree at high speed, pinning the driver. RS703’s crew with assistance from Station 223 units, cut away the driver’s door and used a hydraulic ram to push the dashboard away from the victim. RVFD Firefighter Promotes Volunteerism in Brazil
February 9, 2014 – While vacationing with his family in Brazil in 2009, RVFD volunteer firefighter Ricardo Guerreiro Costa witnessed a serious collision involving a car and motorcycle. He stopped to render aid, along with other bystanders. Ricardo remained on the scene for 30 minutes and although local police were there, no ambulance had arrived. Cold Weather Taxes Resources
January 8, 2014 – The recent cold weather in the Rockville area, that say temperatures drop below 0 degrees, greatly taxed fire and rescue services. Throughout Montgomery County, calls were received for water issues related to broken water pipes, fire alarms triggered due to broken sprinkler pipes and medical calls for falls due to ice.
