It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the passing of former Chief William Alan Hinde on March 11, 2021 at the age of 64. Chief Hinde joined the Rockville Volunteer Fire Department on August 28, 1974 and served for more than 46 years, rising through the ranks to serve as Fire Chief two different times, 1990 and 1991 and again 1999 to 2003 when he became the MCFRS Division Chief for Volunteer Services. At the time of his death, Chief Hinde was serving as a member of the RVFD Board of Directors.
Chief Hinde was well known in the fire service, and well respected by all that had the privilege to know and work alongside him. He was a friend to all of us and was part of a true fire department multi-generational family, His father Bill served as president, his late wife Lisa was an administrative member and his son Christopher is a current deputy chief. We will miss Alan’s wisdom and friendship more than words can express.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday May 15, 2021 at the Covenant of Life Church, 7501 Muncaster Mill Rd, Gaithersburg, MD at 11am, followed by a reception until 3pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations be made in Chief Hinde’s honor to the:
