Fire Destroys Monument St. House

May 1, 2014 – RVFD and MCFRS units were dispatched at 3:30p for a reported house on fire on Monument St. in Rockville. First arriving units reported heavy fire showing from the entire roof above the attached garage. The RID and a task force were requested. Further assessment showed the kitchen and a family room area to the rear of the garage were also fully involved in flames and that fire had extended into the main part of the house, the attic area and the main roof.

Crews initially attacked the fire from the exterior then entered the front door and attacked the garage and kitchen areas through interior doors. Other crews opened up the ceiling to flow water into the attic area. Additional crews attacked the fire from the rear exterior. The fire was brought under control within 45 minutes. Crews continued to check for hot spots and prior to leaving the scene, wet down the entire structure with a foam/water combination.

No one was home at the time of the fire which investigators determined started in the kitchen. The cause is currently unknown. There were no injuries.
