New Support Unit Placed in Service

Support Unit 703

January 12, 2017 – RVFD is pleased to announce our newest vehicle is now in service. Known as Support Unit 703, it is a multi-function 4-wheel drive specialty unit that is equipped to support fire/resuce incidents, emergency medical incidents, special events and mass casualty incidents. The unit was purchased using donated and grant funds and cost, equipped, $100,000.

The unit is equipped with a wide variety of tools and other equipment such as:

  • Elevator rescue equipment
  • Power saws
  • EMS supplies
  • Special event EMS jump kits
  • Automated external defibrillator
  • Triage kits
  • Portable generator
  • Portable lights
  • Tool kit

SU703 will be especially useful for responding by itself to such things as wires or trees down during thunderstorms, first responder or manpower assist during snow storms or other weather emergencies and manpower for mass casualty events or multi-alarm fires. It will also be used as the primary support unit for special events, such as Rockville’s Home Town Holidays or 4th of July fireworks.

The unit is the first of its kind in Montgomery County.
