RVFD Station 23 Celebrates 50 Years of Service
RVFD members, MCFRS career firefighters and retired firefighters gathered on November 6, 2013 to celebrate RVFD Station 23’s 50th anniversary. The station, at 121 Rollins Ave., began operation in 1963 when Rockville was a much different place. Originally housing an engine and ambulance, RVFD added an aerial tower in 1968. Today, the station houses a paramedic engine, an aerial tower, an ALS ambulance and a BLS ambulance. The station responds to almost 9,000 calls for service annually. For more photos… Read more »
RVFD Golf Tournament A Success
RVFD held its 2nd Annual Golf Tournament recently at Norbeck Country Club. Over 80 golfers enjoyed good weather at a great golf course while raising money to support RVFD’s mission of service to the community. RVFD would like to thank all who participated and especially our sponsors without whom the tournament would not have been as successful. We look forward to seeing everyone at next year’s tournament. New Ambulance Placed In Service
The Rockville Volunteer Fire Department is pleased to announce that our new ambulance, purchased with funds donated by the community and grants, has been placed in service. The unit, to be known as Ambulance 703B, was manufactured by Horton Emergency Vehicles on a Freightliner chassis. The ambulance, when fully equipped as a paramedic unit, cost about $275,000. I-270 Collision
June 27, 2013 – RVFD units responded to a collision on southbound Interstate 270 just prior to the Falls Rd. exit. The initial report was of one pinned in the vehicle. Chief 703 arrived first, established command and reported a 3-vehicle collision but no one pinned. A southbound vehicle apparently struck an unmarked MD State Police vehicle parked on the shoulder while the trooper was conducting a traffic stop. Severe Weather Causes Widespread Damage
June 13, 2013 – A quick moving line of severe thunderstorms, that also spawned three tornadoes in Montgomery County, created widespread damage in several Rockville Neighborhoods. Those affected the worst were the West End, Lincoln Park and the area around Montrose Rd. Most of the damage was due to trees or large tree branches falling on houses or townhouses. Rockville Chamber Honors Volunteers
June 12, 2013 – Three RVFD volunteers were honored at the 24th Annual City of Rockville Chamber of Commerce Public Safety Awards ceremony held at Lakewood Country Club. Donald Turner was given the Meritorious Service Award for his long-time commitment to RVFD and for his efforts in establishing and running our fundraising by mail campaign. Collision on Bauer Dr.
June 6, 2013 – RVFD and MCFRS units responded to a collision between a taxi cab and a Montgomery County police car. The driver of the cab was trapped in the vehicle. RS703’s crew removed the driver’s side doors to gain access to the victim who was transported to a local trauma center. For more photos of the incident, click here. Read more »
House Fire in Twinbrook
February 27, 2013 – RVFD and MCFRS units responded to a reported house fire in the Twinbrook neighborhood of Rockville. Chief 703C was first arriving unit and reported smoke showing from the roof and requested the rapid intervention dispatch. All occupants were reported out of the house. Units found a fire originating in the second floor bathroom ceiling with extension along the attic space above the ceiling.
