Rockville Chamber Honors RVFD Volunteers

June 9, 2016 – The Rockville Chamber of Commerce honored several RVFD volunteers at their annual Public Safety Awards ceremony held at Lakewood Country Club on Wednesday, June 8, 2016. Six RVFD members were presented the Meritorious Service Citation for their volunteer efforts supporting the Greater Rockville Community.

The Meritorious Service Citation is presented to a public safety member for service rendered that does not fall within the guidelines of one of the other awards but is, in the opinion of the board, something that deserves special acknowledgement.

RVFD members receiving the citation are:

Captain Steve Fay – Capt. Fay has been a member of RVFD for 28 years. He has served in a number of operational and administrative positions including as president, member of the Board of Directors, firefighter and now as a shift officer. He has led his current shift for 10 years, providing leadership, training and guidance every week.

Firefighter Sean Ferrary – provided 2, 502 hours of in-station standby time in 2015
Deputy Chief Christopher Hinde – provided 2, 276 hours of standby time in 2015
Master Firefighter Derek Winikoff – responded on 624 calls in 2015
Lt. Sander Cohen – responded on 410 calls in 2015
EMS Provider Charles Ogles – responded on 283 EMS calls in 2015

These members are recognized for their countless volunteer hours of training, dedication and service to the community that allowed them to reach these achievements.

In addition to the RVFD members honored, the Chamber also recognized members of the Rockville City Police Department, the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Department and the Montgomery County Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation. Also, volunteer firefighter Yves Luc from the Kensington Volunteer Fire Department was awarded a Distinguished Service Citation, along with Rockville Police Cpl. Ali Zeighani who administered CPR to an elderly man found lying alongside the road. Due to their efforts, the man survived his heart attack and was released from the hospital several days later.

Congratulations to all.
