Severe Weather Causes Widespread Damage

June 13, 2013 – A quick moving line of severe thunderstorms, that also spawned three tornadoes in Montgomery County, created widespread damage in several Rockville Neighborhoods. Those affected the worst were the West End, Lincoln Park and the area around Montrose Rd. Most of the damage was due to trees or large tree branches falling on houses or townhouses.

Photos show some of the damage in the West End. Power was out in several other neighborhoods. Based on the forecast, RVFD volunteers fully staffed a second engine and ambulance at Station 3, upstaffed other units and staffed two utility vehicles to run minor wires down calls and investigations.

An area command was established in the West End to coordinate a “windshield assessment” of the area. This assessment is a street-by-street check to determine damage and potential hazards and to check on the residents.
