June 8, 2014 – On April 1, 2014 RVFD and MCFRS units were dispatched to building fire on Upper Rock Circle in the King Farm area of Rockville. Upon arrival, units found a large apartment complex that was still under construction, with heavy fire on the upper floors. The fire was brought under control after several hours of master and elevated stream water application. The likely cause was determined to be a kerosene heater being used to help cure concrete.
Two months later, the demolition of the fire damaged building is well underway. One portion may be saved, but most of the building will be removed and rebuilt. Demolition crews face a challenge as parts of the building are built over a parking garage and heavy machinery cannot be placed in some areas.
